Our Statement Of Faith
"Spiritual, physical and mental betterment" is a broad statement made in our mission statement which deserves clarification. Concerning spiritual betterment, we look to what the Bible says about the soul of man:
Matthew 16:26: For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? - ESV
Above all things we seek to see individuals moved from darkness and an eternity in hell to light and an eternity with Christ. No amount of "good will" or "charity" saves a person's soul; it is a gift of grace from God made possible through the death, burial and resurrection of His son, Jesus. We support the preaching of the gospel, so that all may hear, and that those who respond to the conviction of God's Holy Spirit, who repent, who trust in the atonement of Jesus Christ and follow Him, will receive a gift which can never be taken away. Spiritual betterment also includes the discipleship which follows, so that new believers will be strengthened in their walk as they seek to follow Jesus. The Bible also makes it clear that our faith must work; we cannot claim to be followers of Christ Jesus in words only; consider this passage in James:
James 14:16 - What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? - ESV
There is need everywhere in our world, but God has put the orphans, widows, and poor of Kenya on our hearts. We want to be good stewards of all that God has given to us, and so we show Jesus' love by supporting efforts which also meet the physical and mental needs of orphans, widows and poor of Kenya; these efforts include the provision of housing, clothing, water, food, mental counseling, schooling, employment opportunities and more.
